The starting points are - as the title suggests - two passages from Wagner's Tristan, the pinnacle of romanticism, emotion and harmony. They appear in the last quarter of the piece as quotations and are to be played in a highly expressive manner, which is of course frowned upon and out of place in advanced art. Nevertheless, there are feelings of insane longing and unfulfillable desire even today; the lyrics of rock and pop music are full of them. However, they are usually quite trivial... If the first half of the piece is a search for romance today, there are also other (sound) worlds, hard and abrupt, especially towards the end. Even if there is no direct coordination between the musicians, both parts correspond with each other...
